Matthew Ormsby, AIA, LEED AP

Matthew is a Senior Associate at Moseley Architects. Since earning his Bachelor of Architecture degree from Virginia Tech, he has worked on a variety of award winning projects, including custom residential, commercial, independent and senior living, student housing, multi-family, and affordable housing projects. Matthew has been on the board of AIA Chesapeake Bay since 2016, previously serving as Secretary of the chapter, and as President in 2018 and 2019. Matthew continued his leadership role as the 2020 President of AIA Maryland.  In addition to his professional architecture work, he is also involved with the Annapolis Chapter of the Virginia Tech Alumni Association, serving as the Scholarship Chairman.


Barton Ross, AIA, LEED AP BD+C

Barton is a qualified Historic Architect per the Secretary of the Interior’s Code of Federal Regulations, 36 CFR Part 61, who has contributed to master plans for the Virginia State Capitol, the United States Capitol and Princeton University. His preservation work has been recognized by the Society of Architectural Historians, the Vernacular Architecture Forum, the American Institute of Architects, the General Services Administration, and the National Park Service. Since 2018, Barton has chaired the Historic Resources Committee for AIA Maryland. He has also served on the Board of Directors for the AIA Chesapeake Bay Chapter, the Kent County Historic Preservation Commission, and the Chestertown Main Street Design Committee. Barton is a graduate of the Virginia Tech School of Architecture + Design and received master’s degrees from Columbia University and the University of Pennsylvania.


Michael Ryan, RA, AIA, NCARB, CCS, CCCA, CSI

Michael Ryan began his architectural studies at Anne Arundel Community College in 1978. He graduated in 1980 and transferred to Catholic University of America, where he received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. After several years in private practice, he pursued teaching full time at Anne Arundel Community College. He also formed his own firm in 1989 to provide residential design services.

He became the Department Chair for the Architecture program at the college in 1995, and since then, has expanded the department to offer Interior Design, Construction Management and Landscape Design degrees. Under his leadership, the department has twice won the Department of Education’s Best Post-Secondary Program Award. In May 2024, Mike was awarded Emeritus Status (the highest honor the college gives out to retired faculty) by the college’s Board of Trustees.

Mike recently retired from AACC and continues to pursue architecture with his company Ryan Architecture. He has been a member of the Board of AIA Chesapeake Bay since 2010, and is proud to have taught many of the college’s graduates who are now licensed professionals in the Chapter and throughout the state. He is instrumental in the Chapter’s Design Awards program and has served as a juror or jury advisor for other AIA Chapters several times.

Barbara Sweeney, AIA Emeritus

Barbara Sweeney, AIA Emeritus, has been a licensed architect since 1988. After completing her B.S. Arch. degree at University of Virginia, and her M. Arch. degree at University of Maryland, she worked at several Baltimore architecture firms along with award winning Wiedemann Architects in Bethesda. Barbara has been a project architect or project manager for high end custom residential projects for most of her career. She brings her experience serving on the Baltimore Chapter of AIA for almost 25 years, including chairman of the program committee for 5 years and a director on the board for several years. She moved from Baltimore to Annapolis in 2009 and has been a board member on both the Chesapeake Bay and Maryland State AIA chapters for many years.

Michael Vesely, RA, AIA

Mike is the owner of MJV Architecture, LLC. He began his career in Architecture in 2008, working for several architecture firms in Maryland, and spending over 6 years working in-house for a local developer prior to founding MJV Architecture, LLC in 2024. Mike has a diverse professional background outside of the practice of architecture, which he uses to guide all of his decisions holistically. Mike specializes in small commercial architecture, but has experience in a wide range of project types, and is always looking for a new challenge while pursuing additional knowledge and personal growth. Mike believes in maintaining quality long-lasting relationships with all parties directly and tangentially involved in building design and construction, and looks forward to developing and growing new connections as a member of AIA Chesapeake Bay.
